Biography

Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., Marjori Abramson earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Syracuse University and a Master of Arts in Art Education at New York University. She studied printmaking at NYU and the Art Center of Northern New Jersey as well as painting at the National Academy School and the Art Students League in New York City. Her instructors have included the talented artists, Sharon Sprung, Mary Beth McKenzie, Anthony Antonios and Costa Vavaviakis. She also studied with Sonia Gechtoff, who inspired her to explore the world of abstraction. Marjori received a three-year certificate at the National Academy, and was awarded a prize for figure composition, and for her body of abstract work, at the National Academy Museum’s 2010 year-end juried student show.

Professionally, Marjori taught art for more than thirty years in the Fort Lee public school system, during which time she was awarded the Governor’s Award for excellence in teaching. Her current artistic endeavors include both representational and abstract works. She has been exhibited at numerous juried shows and invitational exhibitions, and has won several awards. Artists who inspire her include Velazquez, John Singer Sargent, Euan Uglow, and Richard Diebenkorn.
